Matthews, NC Chiropractor, Dr. Mike Schmitt Works to Eliminate Pain by Adjusting the Uppermost Vertebra
Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractor in Matthews, NC: When patients think about chiropractic adjustments, they most often think about traditional manual manipulation. With Atlas Orthogonal Technique, however, Dr. Mike Schmitt uses engineering calculations measuring to millimeters and degrees the balance of the skull on your neck. Designed originally by Georgia Tech engineers, this EXTREMELY GENTLE approach has helped many thousands with headaches and migraines associated with neck pain, and other cervical spine related issues. By correcting the alignment of the head and neck, our Matthews upper cervical chiropractor relieves debilitating neck pain, headaches, migraines, dizziness, arm numbness, tingling, and pain associated with whiplash and sports injuries. Dr. Schmitt has received hundreds of referrals from a large local neurosurgical spine group for his Atlas Orthogonal work.
What is Atlas Orthogonal?
Atlas is the top bone of the spine and is the vertebra that the head sits on. Generally, the atlas should be sitting square and level on the cervical spine while the head should be square on the atlas. When the atlas is misaligned, the head tilts. A patient’s body will try to instinctively try to straighten the head while keeping the body’s center of gravity. This causes pain and tension throughout the spine, hips, pelvis, knees, ankles and shoulders.
Dr. Schmitt uses specific x-ray calculations to pinpoint the exact location of the atlas vertebra in order to determine how far it has shifted from its regular position. A Georgia Tech designed devise then applies a brief sound vibration directly to the neck based on specific vector calculations. This vibration gently moves the atlas vertebra into a better position – an Orthogonal position. Orthogonal means “Right Angles.”

There are Many Benefits to Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic
The Atlas Orthogonal Technique is based on the principle that the body naturally heals itself by restoring balance and allowing for proper communication between a patient’s brain and body. The technique is extremely gentle – so much so that our patients cannot believe an adjustment has been made until they realize function has improved and discomfort has been relieved. When the atlas is in its proper position, the rest of the spine will naturally align back into place.
